How to Install IPTV on NVIDIA Shield TV

Install IPTV Smarters on an NVIDIA Shield TV or Shield Pro, from the Play Store or with Downloader code 250931. The most capable streaming hardware you can buy for IPTV.

Difficulty: Easy4 steps

Before you begin

  • An NVIDIA Shield TV or Shield TV Pro, any generation
  • Your Apollo Group TV access details
  • A stable internet connection of at least 15 Mbps

Downloader code

250931

Type this code into the Downloader app instead of a full web address, then press Go. It fetches the IPTV Smarters installer directly — no typing out a long URL on a remote control.

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1

    Try the Play Store first

The Shield runs full Android TV, so open the Play Store from the home screen and search for IPTV Smarters. If it is listed for your region, install it there and skip the next step entirely.

  2. 2

    Otherwise use Downloader

Install the Downloader app from the Play Store. Open Settings, then Device Preferences, then Security and Restrictions, and allow Unknown Sources for Downloader. Then open Downloader, type the code 250931 in the URL field and press Go.

  3. 3

    Add your account

Launch IPTV Smarters and add a new user, entering the details from your activation email exactly as they appear. The Shield remote has no keyboard, so use the NVIDIA phone app to type if you have it installed.

  4. 4

Turn on the settings that matter

In the player settings, enable hardware decoding and set the buffer generously. The Shield has ample memory, so a larger buffer costs you nothing and absorbs network dips that would stutter on lesser hardware.

Tips for this device

  • The Shield is the only device in this category that people are still happy with five years after buying it. Its codec support and update record are both unusually good.
  • It has an ethernet port. Use it. The Shield can sustain 4K comfortably and Wi-Fi is the only thing likely to get in the way.
  • The Shield Pro has more storage and memory than the standard model. If you keep a large guide loaded, that difference is noticeable.

If something does not work

Most problems at this stage come down to a typo in the credentials or an interrupted first sync. Re-enter the details carefully, watching for capital letters and trailing spaces, then let the guide finish loading before touching anything.

If playback starts but stutters, work through the buffering diagnostic guide. If you are not sure whether your connection is fast enough, the speed guide has the numbers. Still stuck? Contact support with your device model and what the screen says.
