How to Set Up IPTV Smarters on Windows or Mac

Watch Apollo Group TV on a desktop or laptop using the IPTV Smarters desktop app, with notes on hardware acceleration and connecting a computer to a television.

Difficulty: Easy4 steps

Before you begin

  • Windows 10 or newer, or macOS 11 or newer
  • Your Apollo Group TV access details

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1

    Install IPTV Smarters

Download the IPTV Smarters desktop build for Windows or macOS and run the installer. On macOS you may need to allow the app in System Settings, then Privacy and Security, the first time you open it.

  2. 2

    Add your account

Open the app and add a new user, then paste the details from your activation email. Pasting rather than typing avoids the capital-letter and trailing-space mistakes that cause most failed logins.

  3. 3

    Turn on hardware acceleration

In the player settings, enable hardware-accelerated decoding. That hands decoding to your graphics chip and cuts CPU load sharply, which matters on laptops where a hot CPU means loud fans and a short battery life.

  4. 4

Connect to a television for the big screen

An HDMI cable from the computer to the television is the simplest and most reliable route. Set the television as the audio output too, or you will get picture on the television and sound from the laptop.

Tips for this device

  • A desktop machine is the best tool for diagnosing a problem, because it exposes detailed stream information that television apps hide.
  • If the desktop build gives you trouble, any media player that accepts a network playlist will also work for testing.

If something does not work

Most problems at this stage come down to a typo in the credentials or an interrupted first sync. Re-enter the details carefully, watching for capital letters and trailing spaces, then let the guide finish loading before touching anything.

If playback starts but stutters, work through the buffering diagnostic guide. If you are not sure whether your connection is fast enough, the speed guide has the numbers. Still stuck? Contact support with your device model and what the screen says.
