How to Set Up IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV (Tizen)

Install IPTV Smarters on a Samsung Tizen television straight from the Samsung Apps store, with no extra box required. Covers the device key method Samsung sets use.

Difficulty: Easy5 steps

Before you begin

  • A Samsung television running Tizen, from roughly 2017 onward
  • The television connected to the internet
  • Your Apollo Group TV access details

Step-by-step setup

  1. 1

    Open Samsung Apps

Press the Home button on your Samsung remote to open Smart Hub, then move along the bar and select Apps. This is Samsung own store, separate from anything you may have installed by other means.

  2. 2

    Search for IPTV Smarters

Use the magnifier icon at the top right of the Apps screen and search for IPTV Smarters. Select it and choose Install. On older Tizen builds the app may be listed under a slightly different name, so check the publisher before installing.

  3. 3

    Note the device key

Open the app. Samsung builds usually show a device key or MAC address on the first screen instead of asking for a username. Write it down exactly, including any dashes. This is how your subscription gets linked to this specific television.

  4. 4

    Link your subscription

Follow the method in your activation email. That is either entering your portal address and credentials directly, or sending support the device key so it can be registered against your account. Both routes end in the same place.

  5. 5

    Restart and load the guide

Close the app fully and reopen it. The channel list and programme guide download on this first launch, which takes a minute or two. Let it finish before browsing.

Tips for this device

  • Samsung Wi-Fi radios are often the weakest link in the house. If the ethernet socket on the back is within reach of a cable, use it.
  • Tizen televisions from before roughly 2017 have limited memory and may not run current app builds. A Firestick or Android box will outperform them for very little money.
  • If the app closes itself on launch, clear its cache from Settings, then Apps, then IPTV Smarters, and try again.

If something does not work

Most problems at this stage come down to a typo in the credentials or an interrupted first sync. Re-enter the details carefully, watching for capital letters and trailing spaces, then let the guide finish loading before touching anything.

If playback starts but stutters, work through the buffering diagnostic guide. If you are not sure whether your connection is fast enough, the speed guide has the numbers. Still stuck? Contact support with your device model and what the screen says.
